Dr. Anthony Fry, MBBS, MPhil, MRCPsych. DPM – Chairman

Dr. Anthony Fry trained at Kings College Hospital and the Maudsley Hospital.  A former Consultant at Guy’s & St. Thomas’s Hospital, he was also a recognised teacher at the University of London, and an examiner for the membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

After an active career in the NHS and Private sector spanning 35 years, Dr. Fry went into partnership ten years ago with Dr. Paul Mallett, and Lynda Devenish to set up Central Stress Management, which now has a staff of 25 working at two locations.

Dr. Fry is an active member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and also of the Royal Society of Medicine where he sits on the Council for the Section of Psychiatry.  He is President of the Independent Doctors Federation, which represents over 800 Doctors working in the independent sector.  He is a contributing member of the Maudsley Philosophy Group.

Dr. Fry is a medically qualified Consultant Psychiatrist. He has an interest in Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Marital and Sexual issues and Obsessive Compulsive Disorders. He has a special interest in CBT and Psychotherapy in General Psychiatry. 

He is a widely instructed as a medico-legal expert, where he has a special interest in personal injury, including brain injury, and gives expert opinion to the Courts on this. 

Dr Fry has lectured widely, worked with Prince Charles on Holistic and Alternative medicine, and has published a book ‘Safe Space’ about the role of the environment in mental disorder.  He has contributed to TV and radio and is currently writing a second book on his experience and education as a medical undergraduate and later as a postgraduate.


Dr. Paul Mallett, MBBS, MRCPsych. – Medical Director

Dr. Paul Mallett trained at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London.  He is currently a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry, and he was formerly the Medical Director for Central and West London Mental Health Trusts.

Dr. Mallett has a special interest in the treatment of complex and treatment-resistant psychological problems. As well as his work for Central Stress Management he manages an inpatient psychiatric service in North West London, providing highly specialised multidisciplinary care to people with complex, treatment resistant mental health problems. He has published papers on various aspects of drug treatment and psychiatry.

Dr. Mallett specialises in treating: Psychotic Disorders, Depression and Adult Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.


Dr. Tom Stevens MB BCH MA MRCPsych. – Clinical Governance Director

Dr. Tom Stevens trained at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital. He currently works for South London & Maudsley NHS Trust as a General Adult Psychiatrist with special interests in liaison and rehabilitation psychiatry.  He is a clinical advisor to King’s College School of Medicine.

He has a research background in the field of neuro-imaging and neuropsychiatry and has published in this area. His NHS post is in rehabilitation for treatment resistant mental illness and he does outpatient work in family therapy, liaison psychiatry and obesity.

Dr. Stevens specialises in treating Mood Disorders, Psychosis, Family & Relationship problems and Occupational Health.

 

Dr Sarah Eagger MBBS, FRCPsych - Associate

Dr. Eagger is an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist. She trained at the Royal Free and Maudsley Hospitals. She is Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College School of Medicine, London.

Dr. Eagger, a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, was also an examiner for the College for many years and past chair of the College’s Spirituality and Psychiatry Special Interest Group. She is a patron of “Dementia UK” and co-chair of the charity “The National Forum for Spirituality and Mental Health.” She has done further training in family therapy and cognitive analytic therapy.

Dr. Eagger’s special interests are:  work related stress, depression and anxiety, women’s mental health issues, family and relationship problems, dementia and mental disorders of later life, the interface between spirituality and mental health and the application of relaxation and mindfulness techniques.  


Dr. Jan Wise Msc, MBBS, FRCPsych - Associate

Dr. Jan Wise trained at Imperial College and the South London and Maudsley Trust, spending a year on his Masters in Queensland, Australia at a tertiary training centre. He is currently a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry at CNWL Foundation NHS Trust. He is a specialist in Liaison and Adult Psychiatry.

Dr. Wise has a special interest in the interface between physical and mental/emotional health, and has authored two books and over fifty letters and articles. He regularly teaches and lectures internationally and has featured in Print, Radio and Podcast media. He is an active member of the British Medical Association, currently chairing the Association’s Medico-legal Committee.

Dr. Wise specialises in treating: Anxiety/Depressive Disorders, Adult ADHD, Stress & Trauma, Sex & Relationship issues and Legal issues.


Dr Mervi Pitkanen, MBBS, LicMed, MD, MRCPsych, MA (Medical Law/Ethics) – Associate

Dr. Mervi Pitkanen trained at South London and Maudsley Hospital Trust and King’s College. She is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at St Thomas’ Hospital, and a specialist in Liaison, Adult, and Old Age Psychiatry. 

Dr Pitkanen did her Doctorate degree in experimental neurosciences studying Neuropharmacology and behaviour, and her current research is in HIV and aging. Her publications are in the field of neurosciences and she is a co-author in the new editions of Oxford Textbook of Medicine and Handbook of Clinical Neuropsychology neuropsychiatry chapters. She has a Masters degree in Medical Ethics and Law and has a particular interest in ethical problems in medicine as well as in capacity. Her review article on Performance Problems in Medical Practitioners is to be published in Occupational Medicine Journal. 

Her special interests are in Neuropharmacology, Memory Disorders, HIV Neuropsychiatry, Occupational Health, Post-traumatic Stress, Alcohol Problems, Depression and Anxiety Disorders and Medico-legal Assessments.


Dr Latha Weston MBBS MRCPsych Associate

Dr Latha Weston is Consultant Psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry at Barnet Hospital, working in a community mental health team. Previously she was Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital, University College Hospital London. She is interested in liaison psychiatry, gender identity disorders and neuropsychiatry. She is currently completing a Masters Degree in Medical Ethics and Law at King’s College London.

Dr. Patrizia Collard, PhD., BA (Hons), BABCP accred. & UKCP reg., MISMA, MAC – Psychotherapist

Dr. Collard is trained in Multimodal and Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy, Stress Management and Addiction Counseling. She furthermore has completed a course in advanced teacher training for Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (University of Bangor). She specializes in the treatment of Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, PTSD, Sleep Disorders and Alcohol and Eating Disorders. She works with individuals and couples. Dr. Collard has a special interest in treating clients holistically taking life-style and family patterns into account. She is also a Senior Lecturer for Integrative Counseling and Psychotherapy at the University of East London and Interview Editor for Counseling Psychology Quarterly.

Simon Vernals, BSc (Hons), MSc Counseling Psychology, PGDip in Couple, Sexual, & Family Therapy, CPsychol, BPS reg.

Simon Vernals is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with further training in psychosexual, couple and family therapy. He has worked in the NHS for 20 years and is currently Head of Primary Care Psychological Therapy service (NHS contract) provided by Priory Health Care.  Simon offers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Systemic Couple Work and Cognitive Analytic Therapy. His interests include the interplay between Physical Health Problems and Psychological Distress, Psycho-Sexual and Couple Therapy, Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Low-Self Esteem, Complex Attachments and Childhood Adversity.


Violeta Tsiknis, BA Dip Counselling, PGDip Psychotherapy, Msc Psychosexual Psychotherapy

Violeta trained at Middlesex University and the Whittington Hospital.  She has worked as a Counsellor at Warwick Park School, HMP Prisons, Refugee Support Centre’s, and Kings College Hospital among others. She is a psychosexual Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and is a recognized member of BASRT (British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy). She specialises primarily in dealing with sexual problems and problems relating to drugs and alcohol misuse and EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.


Celia Bedford, Dip Counseling Psychology MSc, CPsychol, BPS Reg

Celia Bedford is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and is an accredited practitioner in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). She trained at City University and St. Thomas’s Hospital, London, and has extensive experience in both NHS and private practice. She works using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Integrative Therapy in addition to CAT. Her special interest areas include relationship difficulties, loss and bereavement, eating disorders, depression and low self esteem, stress management, anxiety, panic and phobic disorders and somatic problems.

Carole Murphy BA (Hons) UKCP Reg. ACAT, Diploma in Clinical Psychotherapy (Dist.), Diploma in Couple and Marital Counselling.

Carole trained with the London Marriage Guidance Council and at Guys and St Thomas Hospital. She has worked at the Munro Clinic, Guys Hospital and at The Maudsley. She specialises in personality disorders, eating disorders, identity issues, depression, work-related stress, loss and bereavement and couple work.


Damian White, MSW, BABCP accred. & UKCP reg.

Damian is an Existential and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.  His interest in psychotherapy emerged from his experiences as an international humanitarian worker in Africa and his training in Social Work.  Damian has worked in Specialist Trauma, Sexual abuse and Addiction Services in both the public and private sector. He is currently Senior Tutor at the University of Surrey where he trains students to provide front line NHS anxiety and depression services as part of the government’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) initiative.

Belinda Lovell, MS Counselling Psychologist, CPsychol. BPS and HPC Registered

Belinda Lovell is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, practising either brief Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) or longer-term integrative therapy, for depression and anxiety disorders. Belinda graduated from City University completing her Master’s degree with research in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

As well as private practice Belinda works in a NHS Primary Care Setting, running CBT groups, doing individual therapy and supervising trainees. She specializes in Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Work Stress, Health Anxiety, Phobias and Panic. Having trained at St. Christopher’s Hospice in Bereavement counselling, she is also experienced in treating complex Bereavement and Depression.

Kasia Szymanska, MSc, C Psychol, HPC Registered, BABCP Accredited, SCP Accredited, AFBPsS, MAC.

Kasia Szymanska is a Chartered Psychologist, HPC Registered, and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and coach. She is also trained in the use of EMDR. She works on a one to one basis with clients and coaches, as a trainer and supervisor.

JH Venter Clinical Psychologist, B.Soc.Sc (Hons), M.Soc.Sc (Clin Psych), CPsychol, BPS and HPC reg.

JH Venter is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health Professions Council (UK). He practices Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Therapy. He works within Adult Mental Health in South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and in private practice.

He has a special interest in treating Anxiety Disorders including (PTSD, Panic Attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Phobias), Depression, Bereavement, Bipolar disorder, Self-Esteem, Eating disorders, Anger-Management and recovering from Psychotic Disorders.

He is also involved with training and supervising Clinician Psychologists in training.


Cait Cochrane, BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor, Dip Counselling, Dip Supervision

Cait trained in Person Centred Counselling at the Metanoia Institute along with undertaking training at the Couples Counselling Network. She has co-ordinated a counselling service for the NHS since 1996 and been in private practice since 1992. Her professional background includes, supervising and counselling for drug and alcohol services and she has a wide range of experience and interests including psychosexual issues. Cait works very much from a humanistic perspective, placing emphasis on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. 

 

Lynda Devenish, Lynda Devenish, Dip Couple Counselling BACP Accredited Counsellor – Director of Counselling

Lynda Devenish is a psychodynamic, marital and couples Counsellor who trained with the London Marriage Guidance Council. Prior to this she worked extensively in the NHS in psychiatric and general nursing. Lynda has a special interest in sexual identity and gender issues, and sexual abuse and also works with people suffering from anxiety states, depression and loss as well as relationship issues.


Ken Palmer BA (Hons) PGCE Dip Counseling MBACP

Ken Palmer was born and grew up in Plymouth. After leaving the University of Birmingham with a degree in Theatre Arts, he went into education in 1986, working in four mixed comprehensive schools in Oxford, as Head of English and Drama and Behavior Management Director. In 1998 studied Psychodynamic Counseling at Brookes University. His work now in both school and as a therapist centre on using psychodynamic principles as a means of encouraging children and adults to explore the blocks and behaviours that hinder them in moving forward in both the relationship they have with themselves and others. Key areas of interest are adolescence, life and work-related issues.


Dr. Matina Sotrilli, Bsc, MscPsych. Msc CPscyho, Post-Msc CPsych, DPsych. BPS reg.

Dr. Sotrilli is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, trained at City University, and is currently working in Adult Mental Health in South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. She is also working privately as a supervisor of Counselling Psychologists in training.

Her main approaches are: Integrative Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for the treatment of Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Personality Disorders, Bereavement and life transitions. Her special interests include: Trauma work (PTSD and Sexual Abuse and Assertiveness training.

Simon Simpson is a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist registered with the BABCP and UKCP. He practices Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT).

Simon has a special interest in treating Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, and Anger-Management. He has particular skills in working with OCD, Panic Attacks, Phobias and Traumatic Stress.


Dr. Yonette Hassell, PhD CPsychol AFBPsS MBACP

Dr. Hassell is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.  She is registered with the Health Professions Council, and is a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the American Psychological Association.

She practices Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), interpersonal, psychodynamic and humanistic therapies.  She works both in the NHS and private practice.   She has a special interest in treating depression, anxiety disorders, bereavement, life transitions, low self-esteem, and relationship problems.

She also supervisors other psychologists and is an examiner for the British Psychological Society qualification in counselling psychology.
